Importing tags allows you to add people to tags in bulk, using an excel file.
To Import Tags
- Navigate to the Account Settings (
) > Bulk Tasks > Import Tags."
- Download the template file and populate it with your tag data.
- Import the revised file using the "Import Tags File" button. Note that tags, if not found as already existing, will be created by the import process. They will be placed in the "All Tags" folder. Use the key below for determining how to populate the data.
Deleting Preloaded Data on Template
When you download the Import Tags Template it is going to come preloaded with everyone in your database populated on the template (Breeze ID, First Name, Last Name, Sample Tag Name). You can delete rows of information you do not need, however, the columns need to remain intact to be imported back into Breeze properly. In order to properly remove information from the template, you will need to Highlight the Rows you wish to delete, "Right Click" and select "Delete". Simply highlighting and using delete on your keyboard will only clear the cells and will cause issues upon importing back into Breeze.
If you want to add more than one tag per person, you will need to insert a new line and copy and paste the Breeze ID, First Name and Last name for the individual. Each Tag a person needs to be in will need to be on its own row.
You will need to update the tag name with the "tag" you would like people to be placed in.
Understanding Fields on the File
Field |
Options |
Examples |
---|---|---|
Breeze ID If a person is not in the database, add them. If there’s a large number of people not in the database, bulk import them. Be sure that the person is not in the database with a slightly different name as creating them as a new person will create a duplicate person. If duplicates are created, they can be merged (individually).
The Breeze ID is required for the file to import.

Integer | 102301231 194202391 140293123 |
First Name Technically speaking, the first name field is ignored by the import (the Breeze ID is the only identifier used). The first name field is for the benefit of the person constructing the import file. All individuals that you do not wish to update need to be removed from the template file. While it will not give you an error upon upload, it will wreak havoc in the Tags section by creating a bunch of non-existent tags

String (optional) | Jack Lisa Sue Craig |
Last Name Technically speaking, the last name field is ignored by the import (the Breeze ID is the only identifier used). The last name field is for the benefit of the person constructing the import file.

String (optional) | Anderson Smith Rogers Doe |
Tag Name The tag name can be populated with either an existing or new tag name within your import file. If one does not exist at the time of import, it will be created under "All Tags". If you want to add a person to multiple Tags, each Tag must be on it's own line with that person's information.

String | Youth Group Biking Group Elders |
It is possible to import tag folders as well by separating each folder with ">>". The tag will be at the end of the string. For example, to create a tag name called "Bob's Group" under the "Small Groups" folder, use "Small Groups >> Bob's Group".
