Unsubscribing a Person From Emails

People who do not want to receive email messages sent through Breeze can mark their email address (or have an administrator mark their email address) as "Do Not Email." To do so:

  1. Navigate to a person's profile.
  2. Click to edit the section their email address is in.
  3. Click "Show More Options" beneath their email address.
  4. Select "Do Not Email" and save your changes.
1This will prevent the profile in question from receiving email messages sent through Breeze when an email is sent out to multiple people. Users can still send the person individual messages.

2This will also still send the person emailed contribution statements.

3If an email address is on multiple profiles, Users will need to select Do Not Email on every profile that email address appears on. Otherwise, it will still send. As emails are sent via profile and not email address.

If people have the "Do Not Email" option selected under their profile, they will still receive the Birthday Email.

  • We are running into problems with the Do Not Email feature. We have a few parishioners who have asked to not be contacted. We have marked them as Do Not Email however this notification only shows up at the bottom of the page on the Contact section. It does not show up on the top portion of the page where it's easier to link to the email. There have been several instances where a person is marked Do Not Email however most staff members accessing the database use the email link at the top of the page to send an email. Can you also mark the email address at the top of the page with a Do Not Email notification? Thank you!

    We are so sorry for the trouble here -- we'd be frustrated, too!  I do want to thank you for your feedback here about how we can improve Breeze emails-we’re always on the hunt for the next great idea to serve churches better!   • I do not see an "unsubscribe" button on the bottom of Breeze-sent emails. Am I missing something? It's a huge priority for us to not make people feel "stuck" with our emails.

    Right now we recommend that you create a list of people who consent to receiving communications via email and those that do not. In the future, we're developing an automated "subscription" method that will assist with this, in the meantime, here's how you'd handle this.

    Create a form asking if it's ok for people to be contacted by their email or via text message on their cell phone; create the appropriate tags; then use those tags to send messages. 

    Step 1: Create a Form

    1. Navigating to "More > Forms"
    2. Click "Create New Form"
    3. Drag the fields in you'd like to include and set your color scheme
    4. Click "Create Form"

    Step 2: Create Tags (OK to contact via email, OK to contact via Text, Do not contact, etc)

    1. Click the "Tags" tab on the top right.
    2. Navigate to the folder in which you desire to place the tag.
    3. Click the "Add New Tag" button.
    4. Give the tag a name and save.

    Step 3: Assign people to Tags

    1. Click the "Tags" tab on the top right.
    2. Navigate to the folder containing the tag and click the tag.
    3. On the right, click Add Person.
    4. Begin typing the person's name. The name will appear in a drop down list.
    5. Select the person's name.
    6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until everyone you'd like to add has been selected, then click "Add".

    Use the "Search" functionality when emailing people/texting people

    1. Click the "People" tab in the top right.
    2. On the left, click more filter options.
    3. Select all of the criteria you would like to filter by. Results will show up on the right.

    Step 4: Include a Footer Message to Unsubscribe

    1. Open a new "Compose Message" by clicking "Email People"
    2. Click the 3 dots after A
    3. In the compose box type: "To unsubscribe, reply to this email with UNSUBSCRIBE"
    4. Under "More" click "Save as Signature"

    Step 5: Remove anyone who "Unsubscribes" from the appropriate tag.

    1. Navigate to a person's profile page.
    2. Click tags from the left menu.
    3. On the right, click to edit the tags assigned to that person.
    4. Deselect the tags you'd like unassigned to that person.
    5. Click to save your changes.

  • I am having an issue with this feature. Someone is denoted as "do not email" but they still received the email I sent to our church-wide tag. Does sending an email through the tags somehow circumvent the "do not email" feature? If so, that is something that should be addressed as most of our communications are sent through tags.

    Thank you for letting us know about what you are experiencing here. Sending an email through the tags does not circumvent the 'do not email' feature. I've created a ticket for you so that we can further troubleshoot this situation.

    I’m having an issue with this ‘Do not Email’ feature. Yesterday, I sent out bulk emails to congregants and, unfortunately, someone whose profile had been unsubscribed from receiving emails still received our email just like the rest . Kindly assist.
