What Permissions Do I Need to Enable Notifications?
To enable a Breeze notification, you have to also have the corresponding permission in Users and Roles. This chart below explains which permissions you will need:

Type Description Required Permission
Birthday A list of birthdays for the following month. This list will exclude archived people and people the user does not have permission to view.1 People > View > Age
Follow Ups Follow Ups from the past week that have been assigned, have been completed, or are past due. Follow Ups > View Assigned to Others
New People A list of new people added to the database over the past week. This list will exclude archived people and people the user does not have permission to view.1 Manage Account > [Any Option]
Attendance An overview of attendance for events in the preceding week. Events > Check In Reports
Giving An overview of giving for the past week. Contributions > Reports > View Reports
Anniversary A list of anniversaries for the following month (note that this option will only display if you have a "date" profile field containing either "anniversary", "wedding", "marriage", or "married". This list will exclude archived people and people the user does not have permission to view.1 People > View > [Anniversary Field]

After turning on notifications you will receive a pre-formatted email from Breeze on the day(s) of your choosing updating you of all of the information over the past week.

Birthdays and Anniversaries will give you a list of the following month's birthdays/anniversaries.

  • Anniversary notifications only appear in the list if a date field has been added with specific labels/name field in Profile Fields. You simply can create a profile field date using the steps from this article: Customizing Profile Fields and create a date field and label it Anniversary Date.  (As the word "anniversary," "marriage," "wedding," or "married" is used - this seems to trigger the Notifications.)

  • 1Only the data/people to which the user has access will be sent in a notification. If the user only has access to a tag of High School Kids, those are the only birthdates that will send.

  • You can only have one “Anniversary” notification per user (so if you want them all, you need multiple Users) Some examples of these could include a Background Check Anniversary or Baptism Anniversary notification.  These notifications only appear in the list if a date profile field has been added with the word anniversary in the label.

Giving Notifications:

  •  The Giving notification is a rolling 7 day time period. It adjusts with the date that you choose and goes backwards. If you chose a delivery date of Monday (let's use the 12th as an example) the notification should include gifts from the previous Monday - Sunday the (5th-11th). It stops at Sunday (the 11th) at midnight in order to be able to queue up the giving notification email that's sent out at 8 am the next morning.

The email address used is the email attached to your user account (not necessarily your profile), to update your email address click the person icon in the top right corner (the same one used for notifications) and choose "User Settings" from the dropdown menu.

  • Can the birthday list be customized to only include active members?

  • Hey Bonnie!

Great question! The notification birthday list as mentioned above, is looking for anyone in the system with a birthday.

If you would like to have a more accurate list of those active members and their birthdays, I would recommend using the Advanced search to narrow down your list.

    1. Select the "People" tab from the top right.
    2. On the left, click "Show More Filter Options."
    3. Select "Status"< Member
    4. Use the "Birthdate" filter to select the month you're looking for (you can leave the day and year fields set to "Any").
    5. Results will show up on the right.
  • What access is required to see the 'New People' notification report?

  • Some of my people can't see the option for notifications while others can. I this a permission setting? I can't see to figure out which one it may be. Thanks!

  • Hi @bcambron

The access that you'll need is People <Account Settings.

    Happy Breezing!

  • Hi @johnmarcconner!

Happy to help! I am going to reach out through a support email so that we can get those notifications enabled for those others.

  • I would like some users to receive the weekly Giving summary notification, but not have access to the Contributions section.  Is this possible?  Thank you, Gary

  • Hey @eldergaryrcg,

That's a great question!  As it turns out, if you want them to get notifications from their accounts, they will have to have access to some contribution aspects.  However, if you're trying to maintain giver confidentiality, you can choose to uncheck "Names on Reports" from within the Users and Roles permissions (Contributions > Reports > Names on Reports).

Then they'll have to turn up the weekly notifications within their accounts.

    I hope this helps!

  • Thanks Rob.

I saw that that works.  This leads me to my next question or statement.  I do not want to be able to see the Contributions report that gives the individual amounts that people give even if there are no names.  Just having the numbers for each giver, while unknown, can lead to someone comparing their own giving to what others are giving and contribute to either pride or discouragement or guessing who might be giving that high amount or that low amount.  It would be helpful to see the other big picture reports though.  Actually, those other big picture reports (Monthly, weekly totals) could be accessible to many of our users without much concern.
So, is there any way to filter out that particular report?  It doesn't sound like it at this point.  I think it would be great if in user permissions you could choose which reports are available and also what notifications can be sent without regard for other access.
Overall, so far (almost two weeks of use), I am excited about the functionality of Breeze and look forward to our church utilizing more of the tools as we get familiar with it.
    In His Grace,
  • Hi Gary!

Emily here stepping in for Rob! Thank you so much for this feedback about the reports of contributions in Breeze.

We are thrilled that you are a part of the Breeze family and want to continue to make the functionality of Breeze simple!

The reports can be limited of who is able to see them. Others wouldn’t be able to get to contributions through the link if they don’t have the permissions.

Here is some more information on users and roles that might be helpful:

If you have further questions, we'd love to assist you via email or phone!

We’re here and happy to serve from 9am - 6pm (Eastern), Monday - Friday, either by phone (888.320.6030) or by email.

  • I'm currently receiving failed recurring giving notifications, and I was trying to figure out how to limit who receives them.

  • @cnicoles05

If you're receiving those notifications, then you must be the Primary user. Those emails only go to the giver and the primary user! Let us know if you have any additional questions.

  • Regarding the "People Recently Added" notification:  Is there a way to show HOW they were added?  We want to keep track of people's entrance pathways, such as Alpha, KidsMin, etc.

  • @rmalone

Great question! Unfortunately, this is a limitation of Breeze. The only way to potentially see how a person was added is to look at the Log/Audit Trail. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause!

  • It would be really nice if you could turn on birthday reminders for a specific tag. For example, I want my youth leaders to get reminders for the teens in their small groups. However, I don't want them getting these for the whole church!

Also, it'd be great if you allowed us to set the frequency of the notification. Personally, a weekly birthday reminder would be way more helpful but monthly might be good for others.

  • Breeze Team...our church does Background Checks, Child Protection Training, and DMV checks for people/members who either are employees or volunteers. My request is that on the Notifications tab it would be easier to have a notification sent to see when they need to be updated (in this case 2 yrs). Can you please create a notification that includes these? or if we can create a notification ourselves? An excel report is not really helpful since you would have to print it every month to check who needs updates. Monthly notifications would work much better. Thank you.

  • @rhoda I am so glad that you commented to ask about this! You can actually do this with a little work around! If you set up a "Date" Profile field called "Background Check Anniversary", "Child Protection Training Anniversary" and "DMV Check Anniversary" it would actually allow you to set up a notification to get notified of upcoming anniversaries. It sounds like you may already have date profile fields for this in place, if that is the case, simply add Anniversary to the field name.

A little workaround to this is that you may need to set up different users to get all of these anniversary notifications, as each user can only have one anniversary notification set up. I hope this helps!

  • Can I set up a custom notification? For example, I want to be notified when one of our junior members turns 18.

  • Hey @mchurch!

That is a great question, and I understand why knowing that information would be important!

At this time, Breeze does not have the option to create a notification for when people turn a certain age. I apologize for the frustrations that this may cause. The best option for seeing when someone turns 18 is enabling the birthday notification where it will notify you who has birthdays for the upcoming month!

I apologize that this is not the answer you were hoping for. I know this isn't ideal. :(

Feel free to reach out and submit a feature request about creating custom notifications! I think that's a great idea!:

Have a great day, and keep up the awesome work! :)

  • 1. Is it possible to set notifications for anytime an edit is made to a person (rather than just new people)? This would be helpful for our team to make sure everything is communicated clearly.

    2. Is it possible to set notifications to show new events that have been added?

  • @mostrow

Thanks so much for sharing these suggestions with us! I can certainly see how having the ability to filter those you would like to receive birthday reminders for could be incredibly valuable. At this time, notifications are user specific, based on permissions. So if the small group leaders only have role permission access to the youth group, they would only receive birthday notifications for the youth group, and not the entire church. Again, I can see how this could be improved upon!

I have already shared this suggestion with our team, along with your desire to have customizable frequency options when setting up these notifications!

  • I see where @Josiahm asked this question back in December. Is it possible to set up notifications to show new events that have been added?

  • Hi @amandagonzalezswc!

Great question! It would be very helpful to see these notifications as the calendar fills up! It turns out that there is not a way to set up a notification once an event is created. Depending on the role permissions, a user will be able to see that new event on the calendar as soon as it is created.

Since this is not a current notification feature, but I will be sharing this idea with my team for consideration! :)

  • Hi @DarceyM,

Can you give me information about the role permissions--do you mean that I'll be able to see the event appear on the calendar or in some way I'll get an alert that a new event went on the calendar?

  • Yes @amandagonzalezswc! Sorry for not being clear with that, I'm happy to explain!

As long as the Role allows the User to "View Events," when a new event is created, they will be able to view it on the calendar.

There will not be an alert or notification when a new event is created, but this permission would allow users to be able to see if a new event gets added to the calendar.

    Hope this helps clarify! :)
